From a last letter home to an engagement ring found off the coast of Orkney, this free app is a treasure trove of First World War family stories and artefacts.
1914 brought war to Scotland on what would prove to be an unprecedented scale. This app reveals the stories of 43 Scottish families whose lives were changed forever.
• Explore family stories through an interactive map or discover the common themes that link them together
• Investigate high quality zoomable images of artefacts kept by families and passed down through generations
• Read moving first-hand accounts from diaries and letters between loved ones
This app is the result of a partnership between 10 museums to reveal First World War family stories held in collections across Scotland: National Museums Scotland, Dumfries Museum, Rozelle House, Hawick Museum, Low Parks Museum, Grampian Transport Museum, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, The Black Watch Museum and The Orkney Museum.
This Project is part of the IWM First World War Centenary Partnership and WW100 Scotland.
